First day of summer! Beach queens of yesteryear

Today, the 1st of December, is the first official day of summer in the Southern Hemisphere. Temperatures are reaching well above 35 degrees (celsius), winds are non-existant and the humidity is reaching 90% upwards.. perfect beach weather!

It's also the perfect time to take a gander at some beach and poolside queens of yesteryear..

I love comic book girls!

Hi there all,

I know I've been on a little bit of a hiatus but there are some big things in the pipeline for me including a career change, a city change and a new Etsy store with lots of vintage goodies!

After leaving my last beloved company, I have decided to leave my hometown on the Gold Coast and move to the big smoke known as Sydney town!

For today, I this freakin awesome jungle goddess that I found on my USB earlier today... she's gorgeous and I love her :)

I expect to post up some more updates and more glorious pictures in the next few days.

Friday Fashion Feature

After a few weeks of a self inflicted ban on myself from shopping for items I can wear (insanity!), I am now allowing myself to get back into the swing of things it feels amazing to shop again! I have purchased a few bits and pieces lately and in my search for a new playsuit, I've stumbled across this uber cute website - Blue Velvet Vintage - classic fashions for classy dames.

Blue Velvet Vintage stocks everything you could want or need to deck yourself out from head to toe in beautiful pre-loved vintage. The best thing about the site that stock is kept up to date (i.e. not all 'SOLD'), the measurements are accurate & there is clarity around what is genuine vintage stock and was is a reproduction. They have an alluring collection of lingerie, crinoline slips, nightgowns, kimonos, loungewear, peignoir sets, robes and glamorous Hawaiian and pin up style swimsuits from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. It's love at first site.

Here are a few of my more favoured pieces;

Friday Fashion Feature

Goodness me the week has just flown by for me!

I would have appreciated a few more spare hour to devote to writing but alas, the fates have denied me.

As such, here is this Friday’s Fashion Feature – short and sweet.

Circa Vintage is an amazing store I discovered when visiting Melbourne. Whenever I fly down, I like to visit Fitzroy, which is home to Melbourne's bohemian culture. Its streets contain an edgy mix of alternative, artistic and trendy elements.

You can experience the thrill of the hunt yourself & revel in the sweet, sweet clothes all sparkly, clean and lovingly displayed at 102 Gertrude Street in Fitzroy.

Here are some amazing pieces displayed at a recent exhibition of vintage swimwear from the late ’20s to the ’70s  - oh to live in Melbourne!

That's all!

Friday Fashion Feature

Once again it comes time for a Friday Fashion Feature.

To start sounding slightly like a broken record, I've found some cute 50's-60's style bathers on a mass-produced scale.. by http://www.modcloth.com/.

Now, there are a number of marvelous sections on the Modcloth site, but my favourite by far this season is Swimwear!

A few weeks ago I blogged about Beach Glamour.

They come in from just $89.00 plus postage to your part of the world, however for a timeless look that will last you a few seasons of wear, I'd most definintely consider the investment.

There are numerous cute little numbers for you to enjoy...

Beach Glamour

Living on the Gold Coast, I'm constantly at the beach lathered in sunscreen (ferociously maintaining my Snow White tan) & I find it inspiring to reflect on these images before any risk of being in the sun with the hope of tanning!

Then I get to wondering.. Why is it that we dress so casually when heading to the beach?

Who's to say that make-up, scarves, hats & umbrella's should be outlawed & skimpy lyrca is left to reign free.

Shouldn't we be making the most of the few clothes still on & accessorise in a functional, fashionable way?

Enough blabbering from me, I hope you enjoy these beautiful images that I found on the web.

Two models overlooking water in Palermo wearing bathing suits, both of red, one plaid one checkered with shaggy elfin caps, 1955

Bar du Soleil, July 1961‘What stripes are to tigers and peaches to cream, these sun clothes are to smart resort life: indispensable’, thought Vogue. The resort in question is Deauville, rich in sybaritic delights, whether dining, casinos or racing, and, as air travel became quicker and cheaper – just a short hop across the channel. Vogue’s sun-worshipper wears a loose sweater, slit deeply at the side, by Falconetto.

Model standing on tile steps beside the stone walls of the Castello San' Nicola outside Palermo, Italy, wearing a large brimmed red hat with a red chiffon pleated dress, a row of buttons up the front with chin high collar by Junior Sophisticates, 1967

Baroness Fiona Thyssen-Bornemisza sporting Cover Girl makeup shades, white coolie hat with cigaline veiling by Anello, 1966

For those possessed of ‘More Taste than Money’, as Vogue discreetly put it, summer glamour could be found inexpensively. Here, for example, perfect for sun worshipping, is a long-sleeved polka-dot cotton shirt and matching blooers with, as a pièce de resistance, a cummerbund in a contrasting pattern, cinching the outfit at the waist.
